Universal Music Group is pointing its legal guns at Grooveshark, despite an earlier settlement involving EMI. And for now, the parties involved are mostly keeping quiet. Digital Music News was unable to get a response from Grooveshark CEO Sam Tarantino or VP of Sales and Marketing Josh Bonnain, both of whom may have been acting on the advice of lawyers.
Universal Music Group did acknowledge the action, but so far, the label has yet to delve into the details. "Universal Music is committed to protecting the rights of its artists and songwriters," the label offered. "We will continue to support new, innovative and legitimate technologies and services that ensure that our artists and songwriters are fairly compensated for the use of their creative works."
Stay tuned as more details emerge.
