Is Seeqpod now heading towards the cellar? Under the weight of major lawsuits, the playlisting startup recently filed for bankruptcy, a signal of bad things ahead. The filing betrayed serious financial distress, and on Friday, the site appeared to go dark. The 404 was first noticed by MP3 Newswire, and the site remained inaccessible over the weekend.
All signs point in a dour direction. Seeqpod gained serious traction by allowing users to create virtual playlists, a structure also implemented by lawsuit-saddled Project Playlist. The distributed, streaming architecture plucks songs from across the internet, an approach that has drawn major lawsuits from Warner Music Group and EMI. Shortly after the EMI filing, Seeqpod sought the bankruptcy protection.
