Boston-based Compete recently ranked Imeem as the top provider of streaming music, based on unique visitor counts in March. According to the report, Imeem topped Yahoo Music, AOL Music, MySpace Music, and a host of other competitors.
Now, those competitors are challenging the ranking and pointing to an entirely different - and conflicting - data set. According to figures published by comScore Media Metrix for the same period, AOL Music - not Imeem - topped the charts with a visitor tally of 21.9 million, followed closely by Yahoo Music, which pulled 20.8 million.
MySpace Music, which also contested the findings, ranked several slots down with a ranking of 15.5 million. And instead of a number one ranking, comScore pegged Imeem at number 11, with a unique audience of 5.2 million.
