Amie Street is now broadening its Sony Music Entertainment deal, but modifying its pricing structure in the process. According to details shared this morning with Digital Music News, Amie Street is now positioning both catalog and current artists from the Sony collection. But instead of an Amie Street approach that slides track pricing based on demand, Sony tracks will only carry three tags - 69-cents, 99-cents, and $1.29. Those prices will be determined by the label, instead of the demand levels of the consumer.
On the rest of the site, songs start at 15-cents, and ramp towards 98-cents based on demand. Details like total catalog and live dates are forthcoming, and Amie could be challenged by an inconsistent pricing approach. The partnership closely follows an arrangement with Sony-owned RED Distribution, a deal that follows the Amie Street demand-based model.
